For many years the station wagon filled the transportation needs of large families. Even the Brady Bunch had one. Then in the 1980s minivans and SUVs took over the role of family hauler. Just when its days seemed numbered rising gas prices infused the humble wagon with a new lease on life. These days vehicles that a combine a car-like ride with truck-like room and functionality are called crossovers but make no mistake, they are successors to the station wagons dynasty.
